Most calorie calculators are built for Western bodies eating Western food. Nutrimate’s calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor formula – the most accurate BMR formula available – combined with Indian-specific activity patterns to give you a result that actually reflects your lifestyle.
Your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is calculated by multiplying your BMR by your activity multiplier. This gives you the number of calories your body burns in a full day including all physical activity.
BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest – just to keep your heart beating, lungs breathing, and organs functioning. For most Indian adults it ranges from 1,200 to 1,800 kcal per day depending on body size and composition.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) recommends approximately 1,900 kcal for sedentary Indian women and 2,100 kcal for sedentary Indian men. However, your ideal intake depends on your specific weight, height, age, activity level, and health goals – which is why a personalised calculator like this one gives more useful results than a generic number.
A 70 kg Indian adult burns approximately 40 to 50 calories per 1,000 steps. At 5,000 steps (roughly 3.5 km) that is 200 to 250 calories. At 10,000 steps it is 400 to 500 calories. Heavier individuals burn more per step, lighter individuals burn less – which is why Nutrimate’s formula adjusts for your specific body weight.
Nutrimate’s Health Score is a daily 0 to 100 number that combines your nutrition intake, step count, hydration, and activity consistency into one simple metric. A score above 75 is excellent. Between 50 and 75 is good. Below 50 needs attention. The Nutrimate app updates your score in real time throughout the day as you log meals, water, and steps.
