SEARCHING FOR YOUR FOOD

Nutrimate has 1 Lakh+ Indian Food Database, but not every dish appears in the first results. Start by tapping Search More at the bottom of the results list. This searches a wider database and usually finds what you are looking for. If it still does not appear, use WhatsApp logging or create a Custom Dish.

Search for your food normally. When the results appear, scroll to the bottom and tap Search More. Nutrimate searches a larger database and shows additional results. Keep tapping Search More until you find your food or the closest match.

TIPS FOR BETTER SEARCH RESULTS:

✓ Try simple words first — ‘dal’ before ‘toor dal tadka’
✓ Try English and Hindi both — ‘bhindi’ or ‘okra’, ‘methi’ or ‘fenugreek’
✓ Search the main ingredient if the full dish is not found — search ‘rajma’ and ‘rice’ separately
✓ For packaged foods, search the brand name — ‘Amul paneer’ instead of just ‘paneer’

Use WhatsApp logging for speed or Custom Dish for accuracy. Both methods work for any food — even foods that are not in the Nutrimate database at all.

LOG FOOD VIA WHATSAPP

Open your Nutrimate WhatsApp contact and simply describe what you ate — in English, Hindi, or a mix of both. Nutrimate understands your meal description and automatically logs the calories and nutrition to your diary. No searching, no selecting, no entering numbers.

1. Open WhatsApp

Go to your Nutrimate WhatsApp contact — the number you connected when setting up the app.

2. Describe your meal naturally
Type what you ate and how much. You do not need to be precise — a simple description works.

3. Nutrimate replies instantly
Your meal is logged automatically with calories, protein, carbs, and fat calculated.

4. Correct if needed
If something looks off — reply with a correction and Nutrimate updates your log

ENGLISH EXAMPLES:

✓ ‘had methi thepla 3 pieces with curd for breakfast’

✓ ‘lunch — 2 roti, 1 katori rajma, salad’

✓ ‘1 glass lassi and paneer sabzi with 2 roti’

✓’dinner — jowar roti 2 with brinjal bharta’

 HINDI EXAMPLES:

✓ ‘subah poha ek plate aur chai’
✓ ‘2 chapati, 1 katori dal, 1 katori dahi lunch mein’
✓ ‘raat ko dal fry, chawal, aur salad’

🍽 Include quantity
‘1 katori’, ‘2 roti’, ‘1 bowl’, ‘1 glass’ — any quantity helps Nutrimate estimate accurately.

🍽 Mention cooking method if relevant
‘with ghee’, ‘fried’, ‘steamed’ — cooking method affects calories significantly.

🍽 Describe the full meal in one message
‘dal roti sabzi salad for lunch’ — no need to send separate messages for each item.

🍽 Mention homemade or restaurant
Restaurant portions are usually larger. Mentioning this helps Nutrimate adjust the estimate.

Reply in the same WhatsApp conversation with a correction — for example ‘the roti was smaller, about 25g each’ or ‘it was 2 katori not 1’. Nutrimate updates your log immediately. You can also tap any item in your food diary inside the app to edit it manually.

Yes. Nutrimate understands Hindi food names, Hindi quantities, and a mix of Hindi and English in the same message — exactly how you naturally speak. No need to translate your food into English

CREATE A CUSTOM DISH

Custom Dish lets you create any food or recipe not in Nutrimate’s database. You enter the dish name and add each ingredient with its quantity. Nutrimate automatically calculates the complete nutrition — calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, fibre, and all other values — for your exact recipe. Once saved, your custom dish is available in your personal library every time you log food.

You do not enter any nutrition numbers. You only enter:

1. The dish name 2. Each ingredient 3. The quantity of each ingredient Nutrimate does all the calculation for you.

Go to the food logging screen → tap Add Food → scroll down and tap Create Custom Dish.

1. Enter the dish name
Give your dish any name — ‘My Dal Tadka’, ‘Aai chi Bhaji’, ‘Monday Breakfast’, ‘Gym Meal Prep’. This is the name that appears in your diary every time you log it.

2. Add your first ingredient
Tap Add Ingredient. Search for the ingredient from the Nutrimate database — for example ‘toor dal’, ‘wheat flour’, ‘oil’, ‘tomato’. Select the matching item.

3. Enter the quantity and unit
Choose the unit — grams, ml, katori, plate, bowl, glass, or piece. Enter how much of this ingredient goes into the dish. See the unit guide below.

4. Add more ingredients
Tap Add Ingredient again and repeat for every ingredient in your dish — onion, tomato, oil, spices, ghee, everything.

5. Set the total servings
Enter how many servings this full recipe makes. For example — if your dal recipe fills 3 katoris, enter 3 servings. Nutrimate divides the total nutrition by the number of servings so each log is accurate.

6. Save your dish
Tap Save. Nutrimate instantly calculates the calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, and all other nutrition values for your exact recipe. Your custom dish is saved permanently in your personal library.

EXAMPLE:

Creating ‘My Dal Tadka’:

Dish Name: My Dal Tadka Ingredient

1: Toor Dal → 100 g Ingredient

2: Mustard Oil → 10 ml Ingredient

3: Tomato → 60 g Ingredient

4: Onion → 50 g Ingredient

5: Garlic → 5 g Ingredient

6: Cumin Seeds → 3 g Ingredient

7: Turmeric → 2 g Total servings: 2 katoris

Nutrimate calculates full nutrition for the recipe and divides by 2. Every time you log ‘1 katori My Dal Tadka’ — it uses your exact recipe values.

Grams (g) — Most accurate — use for raw ingredients like dal, flour, rice, vegetables, paneer, meat. Weigh on a kitchen scale or use the estimates below.

Millilitres (ml) — For liquids — oil, milk, water, buttermilk. 1 teaspoon = 5ml, 1 tablespoon = 15ml.
Katori / Bowl — Most common Indian unit. 1 standard katori = approximately 150ml.
Plate — For full servings — 1 plate poha, 1 plate biryani.
Glass — For drinks — milk, lassi, juice. 1 glass = 200 to 250ml.
Piece — For countable items — 1 roti, 1 idli, 1 vada, 1 egg.
Tablespoon — For oils, ghee, sugar, honey. 1 tablespoon = 15ml oil / 12g sugar.
Teaspoon — For spices, salt, mustard seeds. 1 teaspoon = 5ml.

Use these standard estimates based on commonly used Indian vessel sizes:

1 roti or chapati — 30 to 35 grams of atta per roti
1 paratha (medium) — 60 to 70 grams of atta
1 katori dal — cooked — 150 to 180 grams
1 katori rice — cooked — 150 to 180 grams
1 katori sabzi — cooked — 100 to 130 grams
1 katori curd / dahi — 150 grams
1 bowl poha — cooked — 150 to 200 grams
1 glass milk — 200 to 240 ml
1 tablespoon oil or ghee — 12 to 15 ml
1 medium egg — 50 grams without shell
1 medium banana — peeled — 80 grams
1 medium apple — peeled — 130 grams
1 medium tomato — 80 grams
1 medium onion — 80 to 100 grams

Nutrimate automatically calculates the complete nutrition profile for your custom dish based on the ingredients and quantities you entered:

Calories — Total energy in kcal per serving
Protein — Total protein in grams per serving
Total Carbohydrates — Total carbs in grams per serving
Total Fat — Total fat in grams per serving
Dietary Fibre — Fibre content in grams per serving
Sugar — Total sugar in grams per serving
Sodium — Sodium content in milligrams per serving
Saturated Fat — Saturated fat in grams per serving

All values are calculated automatically from IFCT 2017 Indian nutrition data and Nutrimate’s Indian food database. You never need to enter or look up any of these numbers yourself.

You can add any ingredient that is in the Nutrimate database. If a specific ingredient is not found, add the closest available substitute — for example use ‘coriander leaves’ if ‘fresh dhania’ is not listed separately. The difference in nutrition for small quantities of herbs and spices is minimal and will not significantly affect your overall dish
calculation.

Yes. Go to your food diary, tap the logged item, tap Edit, and select Edit Custom Dish. You can change any ingredient, adjust any quantity, or update the number of servings. Nutrimate recalculates all nutrition instantly. All future logs of this dish will use the updated values.

Your caregiver connected through Caregiver Access can see your food diary including meals logged with your custom dishes and the full nutrition values. The ingredient list and quantities of your recipe are not visible to them — only the final nutrition data appears in their dashboard.

WHICH METHOD TO USE — QUICK GUIDE

10 SECONDS — WhatsApp Logging Send a WhatsApp message describing your meal. Works for any food, any time. No searching needed. 10 SECONDS — Search More Tap Search More repeatedly until you find the closest match. 3 TO 5 MINUTES — Custom Dish Enter dish name, add ingredients with quantities. Do once — reuse
forever. Best for your regular home-cooked meals.

Custom Dish gives the highest accuracy because it uses your exact recipe with your exact quantities. WhatsApp logging is highly accurate for standard Indian portion sizes and works for any meal including those you make differently each time. Search More is accurate when you find the right match. All three are far better than skipping
the log.

Yes — for any meal you cook and eat regularly. Create your dal recipe once, your roti recipe once, your usual sabzi once. After that, logging takes five seconds per meal. The more Custom Dishes you create, the more accurate your nutrition tracking becomes and the faster your daily logging gets.

Absolutely. In a single meal you can log some items from the database — like curd you found by searching — and add your Custom Dish for the home-cooked main dish. Everything appears together in your diary with the correct combined nutrition for that meal.

HELP NUTRIMATE ADD YOUR FOOD

Yes — and we take every request seriously. The more users request a specific food, the faster it gets prioritised and added. Here is how to request:

📧 Email us
Send the food name to admin@nutrimate.in with the subject ‘Food Request — [food name]’. Include any details about the food if you have them.

💬 WhatsApp us
Send ‘Please add [food name]’ to your Nutrimate WhatsApp number. We read every message.

Leave a review
Mention specific foods you want added in your Play Store or App Store review — we read every review and act on
requests

Most food requests are added within 7 to 14 days. Foods requested by multiple users are prioritised and added within 2 to 3 days. Regional and lesser-known dishes may take slightly longer as we verify nutritional data from trusted Indian sources including IFCT 2017 and NIN before adding.

We are actively adding regional Indian dishes from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Bengal, and Kerala. Indian street foods and chaat. More packaged Indian brand products. Traditional sweets and festival foods. Home cooking staples with accurate Indian portion data. Our goal is to have every food an Indian eats in the database within the next 3 months.

REMEMBER: You are never stuck waiting for a food to be added. Use WhatsApp logging or Custom Dish right now

Absolutely. In a single meal you can log some items from the database — like curd you found by searching — and add your Custom Dish for the home-cooked main dish. Everything appears together in your diary with the correct combined nutrition for that meal.
